Given the nature of the work of PHE, as a Category 1 department, you may be required in an emergency, if deemed a necessity, to redeploy to another role at short notice. You may also be required to work at any other location, within reasonable travelling distance of your permanent home address, in line with the provisions set out in your contract of employment.

Public Health England exists to protect and improve the nation’s health and wellbeing and reduce health inequalities. We do this through world-leading science, knowledge and intelligence, advocacy, partnerships and the delivery of specialist public health services. We are an executive agency of the Department of Health and Social Care, and a distinct delivery organisation with operational autonomy. We provide government, local government, the NHS, Parliament, industry and the public with evidence-based professional, scientific and delivery expertise and support.
The Diet, Obesity and Physical Activity Division works to support the delivery of PHE’s work to improve diet and nutrition and combat obesity. The Division provides scientific and policy advice on nutrition, physical activity and obesity, nutrition surveillance and monitoring and supports weight management services. The Division, which is made up of about 50 people, comprises 9 teams: Nutrition Science (SACN); Dietary Surveys and Food Composition; Obesity and Healthy Weight; Dietary Improvement; Nutrition Advice; Physical Activity; UK Nutrition Health Claims Committee (UKNHCC); International work and Business Management. It also works closely with a number of other teams across PHE.
The Diet Obesity and Physical Activity Division is seeking an experienced scientist with proven senior management and leadership skills. The post holder will lead the SACN team providing advice on nutrition science and will make a significant contribution to nutrition policy through provision of expert advice across Public Health England, the Department of Health and Social Care and other government departments.
