To operate and respond to alarm systems. (This may involve attending outside normal working hours.)
Assisting with ensuring that the heating of the premises is satisfactory and running economically.
Replacing (to a safe height) electric lamps and tubes.
Undertake and direct porterage duties as required.
Reviewing the school diary and liaising with staff about event requests to ensure the timely laying out, clearing and stacking furniture and presentation equipment as requested.
Replenishment of supplies in toilets.
Share responsibility with other caretaking staff for unlocking/locking the school as necessary at start and end of the day.
Take regular gas/electricity/water meter readings.
Treatment of pathways and steps with salt, grit and sand during periods of ice and snow as determined by the school Snow Policy.
Qualify and act as the Licensee for the school premises.
Line Manage the work of the Caretakers.
General handy person duties.
Building maintenance tasks to include: a. Clearing of drains and gulleys and guttering) Clearing outlets on single storey flat roofs) Minor maintenance of site fencing
- Cleaning of external areas -Leaves - seasonally, Litter/broken glass - daily as needs arise
- Rotational painting and decorating of teaching and other areas of the school
- Other tasks as requested.
Ensure that the fabric of the buildings is maintained by inspecting, recording with a camera and reporting any major defects. Undertake minor repairs / maintenance to the buildings/premises as instructed.
Use and maintenance of gardening hand tools and basic light machinery and plant
Use of mowers, trimmer's and leaf blowers Lawn maintenance and cultivation
Supervise site team soil cultivation, digging, forking, mulching, watering, raking, weeding, edging, pruning, seed sowing, bed preparation and planting
Under the direction of their Line Manager liaise with Insurance firms and organise the compilation of evidence for claims.
Health and safety
To monitor Health and Safety standards and procedures in liaison with the Health & Safety Coordinator (who has overall responsibility for Health and Safety).
Check the minibus for fuel and clean and drive the minibus as required.
Collecting litter from high fire risk areas.
Checking of emergency exit doors - ease of opening.
Record all Health and Safety checks on the Safe Smart database as directed. Complete annual Safe Smart and other identified training and CPD.
To be fully aware of and comply with relevant standards and legislation, including the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations
Attend Governors Premises, Health and Safety Meetings and produce relevant reports as requested.
Up-date and maintain a procedures document for the post of Caretaker.
Follow school policies and procedures especially those relating to child protection, health and safety and the Data Protection Act.
Respect confidentiality issues linked to home/students/teachers/school work and to keep confidences where appropriate.
Have due regard to health and safety of self, staff, students and visitors and have responsibility for bringing matters of concerns to attention of the Health and Safety Co-ordinator.
The successful candidates must have previous site experience working at a school as well as an Enhanced DBS
