Seasonal Ranger (FTC) Location: Blagdon Lake Salary: Circa £9 per hour depending on skills and experience Closing Date: Sunday 09 December 2018 We’re looking for a number of fixed term Rangers to join our Lakeside team here at Bristol Water. Our reservoirs provide raw water storage; enabling the drinking water network for Bristol and its surrounding areas. They are also nationally important wildlife habitats that need protecting, and they just happen to be absolutely beautiful locations that people love to spend time in! Whether it is a great day out, or just a quick escape from the modern world, our lakes are a leading visitor attraction in the region. The Lakeside Services team manage public access and recreation across 9 of Bristol Waters waterways; including the two famous lakes of Chew Valley and Blagdon. With up to half a million site visits annually we play a vital part in community wellbeing and projecting a positive image of Bristol Water. Lakeside Services is also proud to operate Bristol Water Fisheries; a premier UK fishery famous renowned for both its trout and predator fishing. What will you be doing? You will join an experienced team of rangers whose aim is to provide a safe and enjoyable visitor experience at our lakes. The range of tasks is diverse; from cleaning fishing boats and attending car parks, to inspecting company assets and rearing fish on our fish farm. Public access and recreation is a 7 day a week operation; our rangers work within a shift rota set by the operations manager. Our fixed term rangers work an average of 4 days per week during their term of employment, 2 weekends out of 3, and may include bank holiday weekends. Early shifts (7am start), late shifts (sunset+1.5 hours). We have a number of fixed term contracts available, starting from various points early next year, from February through to April, finishing in late autumn 2019. What we are looking for candidates who are… Happy working alone; typically outside and in all weather conditions Responsible; safeguarding themselves, colleagues, the visiting public and our assets Team players; that quickly earns the respect of team-mates; punctual, considerate and a grafter Practical; prepared to do whatever is necessary to keep the sites clean, presentable and safe Experienced at engaging with the general public; presentable and friendly, but firm when necessary Pro-active; using your initiative to find jobs, get them done and improve our operation As you can imagine, the work is very physically demanding, so you will need to be physically fit and able to undertake various physical tasks. Ideally, although not essential, you’ll also share a passion for the range of fishing that we offer our customers; and enjoy all aspects of rearing fish on our fish farm.
