About the team
The Agency Team in GroupM Digital comprises four separate teams that are organized around our agencies, with three teams focused on 1. Mediacom and Essence, 2. Mindshare and M/Six, and 3. Wavemaker, with a further 4. Pan-Regional team working to service multi-national Xaxis clients. The teams are responsible for delivering programmatic activity for our agencies’ clients, from brief response through to activation across different Xaxis products and different commercial models including Xaxis and our fully disclosed service. As programmatic specialists, this team have in-depth knowledge across a breadth of topics and ensure that this knowledge is used in the best way to meet our clients’ need. The Agency Team also includes agency-allocated Digital Strategists who provide strategic thinking and guidance on the best application of GroupM products, services and technologies for our agencies' clients and work to ensure our programmatic activation is connected to our full range of digital capabilities to deliver the best possible outcomes for our clients.
About the role
The Agency Group Director is responsible for running one of our four Agency Teams and for the successful delivery of all programmatic media across both disclosed (Programmatic Services) and (Xaxis) products and services. This is a senior role leading the team responsible for all programmatic activity we provide to our agency specific clients and leading a team of c.20 programmatic experts organised across two areas:
Client Success: a programmatic expert team lead by a Head of Client Success, responsible for all elements of a client’s programmatic activity. This team is responsible for developing a deep understanding of client needs and then meeting that need through exemplary service and expertly executed programmatic activity. It incorporates the disclosed operations of Programmatic Services and the teams working on Xaxis products.
Client Development: a commercial team lead by a Head of Client Development who is the key commercial lead for all clients across the agency, responsible for expanding our client base and drive client adoption of our products, including where client demands are made, via Programmatic Services.
Lead the GroupM Digital relationship with the agency - Develop and own the strategic plan for working with the agency and developing GroupM Digital’s programmatic work with the agency’s clients. Foster strong relationships with key agency contacts, developing a deep understanding of the needs of both the agency and their clients and positioning Xaxis and/or Programmatic Services in a way that can meet those needs. Work with the agency to gain additional opted-in clients, positioning the benefits of Xaxis in a way that engages the client and results in the signing of our opt-in agreement. Represent the agency inside GroupM and ensuring that the best interests of your agency are considered in all relevant GroupM conversations. Work closely with the Global Client teams for any global clients across your patch, ensuring alignment across all elements of activity. Involvement in pitches across your agency patch, ensuring that Xaxis is positioned in a way that results in a successful client win and a resulting opt-in, in collaboration with the Commercial Director where appropriate. Identify the role for Programmatic Services where Xaxis is not chosen by a client.
Drive business growth – drive the adoption of our products and deliver topline billings targets. Full ownership of forecasting and revenue tracking across Xaxis and Programmatic Services for your agency, with an in-depth understanding of the implications of the finances of your agency (in collaboration with the Commercial Director where appropriate). Involvement in the Commercial Steering Group.
Leading the Agency Team – you must understand and deliver the key objectives for every client account you work on. Full participation in the Agency Team Leadership group and all that entails, from prioritization and project work to strong and collaborative working relationships with your peers. Line management and leadership of your team, including development and performance management. Ensure first-rate operational execution across your team, hitting client KPIs whilst maximizing margin. Act as a point of escalation for troubleshooting and problem deep-dives. Set goals for the team to work for ensuring they are aligned with the business. Align team strategy with Agency objectives. Secure support, budget and sign-off as required for the initiatives, projects and developments that make up, or contribute towards, the goals you have set. Collaborate with the Digital Strategist to drive value for the agency.
Leading GroupM Digital - Drive collaboration with Operations, Product and Data and Technology teams. Work as part of the Directors Board to lead the teams delivering our shared goals. Contribute to the development of the desired GroupM Digital culture.

The skills we are looking for
Application of industry & technical knowledge – 8+ years' experience in a media environment, potentially agency side, knowledge of internet functionality, the online advertising industry, trends, technologies, and pricing models. Strategic thinking to set and achieve goals. Strong programmatic knowledge and how to use our platforms to meet client objectives. A good understanding of our competitors to be able to articulate our USPs versus theirs. Understanding of digital media technologies and demonstrable experience of using these to drive business improvement.
Professionalism – be well organized, able to multi-task and manage your own time effectively, and able to work to deadlines. Understanding and effective use of key business systems, and strong Excel and PowerPoint skills. Self-starting and individually driven person. Proven record of accomplishment in establishing high levels of customer satisfaction. Pro-active and driven to take the initiative to achieve positive outcomes. Focused on outcomes at all levels in the client organisation.
Good communication – effective communication with colleagues to ensure successful teamwork. Able to explain our product offering in a compelling way to agency colleagues, and to clients. Tailoring our message to the audience to tell a coherent story. Effectively translating complex ideas into easy to understand, workable solutions. Demonstrable ability to write accurate and detailed business cases, but also clear and engaging internal press releases for new product launches or key feature releases
Team Leadership and People Management - organisational change management experience as the driver of change. Inspiring and motivating team leader. Positive attitude and a focus on solutions. Business leader, someone people want to listen to and follow.
