Description The Dow Chemical Company has a challenging opportunity for a Process Design Engineer to be located at Barry, the United Kingdom for Dow Silicones. Description: Provide day to day support for the Engineering design team activities with particular focus on process design/process engineering Provide Process Design support for site Capital Projects and small process changes Attend weekly process change review meeting (per attendance rota) and provide technical guidance and advice to ensure fit for purpose scopes are available as part of the handover process to design. Vet Capital scopes to ensure safe fit for purposes designs can be achieved. Provide technical support on an ad-hoq basis and during site escalation events to evaluate and provide timely solutions. Informal Mentoring and technical advice/coaching of less experienced Engineers ie improvement engineers, reliability engineers, students Provide support for site capital spare purchases (Vessels, Heat exchangers, pumps and columns) and provide technical solutions for modification/revamp of existing equipment to improve reliability, safety and capacity improvement. Primary focus for preparing equipment specifications for all new and revamped equipment Evaluate existing process units to identify bottle necks as a means to support plant team trouble shooting and de-bottlenecking constraints/improving reliability Support global revalidation of legacy relief valves, in terms of evaluating potential sources of overpressure, checking and revising any calculations which do not need acceptable criteria. •Work with other Dow sites to gain and transfer/share Process Design Knowledge. Utilise Dow offsite Engineering service in India to call on resource when required. Provide plant support eg shutdown equipment installation or change Work effectively with outside EPC’s eg Jacobs Field Service to successfully support shutdown critical path construction activities. Engage in the site safety programme. Qualifications Masters Degree in Chemical Engineering Good understanding of chemical engineering principles in terms of hydraulics, heat transfer, mass transfer and separation process. Ability to carry out complex chemical engineering calculations Ability to produce process schematics, PFD’s and heat and Mass Balances during early design stage to review and agree with our partners. Development of P&ID’s from Process schematics from front end to detailed design Working knowledge of Fluid flow, ASPEN and EDR software required. Ability to use engineering judgement and make assumptions, when there is no text book solution to solving problems when encountered. Ability to work with and be a key member in co-ordinating a multi-discipline engineering team to communicate requirements effectively to produce safe, minimum cost fit for purpose designs.
