Where you’ll work SELCHP is currently the largest such facility operated by Veolia worldwide and recovers electricity & heat from around 440,000 tonnes a year of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW). SELCHP is located between London Bridge and Greenwich and is a leading plant in its industry. Our London region employs over 4000 people from our local communities. What you’ll do As the Plant Operator you will be responsible for operating the plant from the main control room, to optimise waste throughput and electricity generation and to ensure that all statutory and licensing requirements are maintained. As Plant Operator you will maximise efficiency and throughput of the plant to optimise power generation and profit for the Company whilst ensuring compliance with the Site licence and EA (Environment Agency) regulations and legislation and adhere to H&S (Health and Safety) policy, procedures and targets as set by the Company and external regulators (HSE - Health and Safety Executive). You will be responsible for controlling gates to allow customers/contractors on site, answering customer phone enquiries, identifying any H&S breaches (eg. PPE - Personal Protective Equipment) and providing plant information to internal customers such as operational colleagues and senior management. The above is a summary of main duties only, other duties may be required to be fulfilled to meet the changing nature of this role.Qualifications Skills & Qualifications required for the role To enable you to carry out this role you will possess NVQ level 3/4 - Boilers & Turbines and high Voltage switching, operator panel training courses. You will have experience in the power/energy industry from a waste/industrial or naval environment and good knowledge of boiler and turbine operation, preferably with DSC control and all statutory requirements associated with such an operation. You will be both numerical and literacy literate and have the ability and aptitude to understand complex engineering processes, able to work flexibly in a small team, have a logical approach to problem solving and the ability to maintain concentration under pressure & in emergencies.
