The department You will form part of the Commercial team, which deals with the full range of non-contentious commercial, technology, outsourcing, e-commerce, privacy, data, consumer, IP, marketing and media law. Your primary focus would be commercial and technology transactional work and ideally also on data privacy and consumer law. The team is an energetic and sociable group with an extremely impressive and varied client base, predominantly in the retail, technology, marketing and media sectors and also in the automotive and professional services industries. The overall objective of this challenging and busy role is to provide both fee-earning and project management support to the Team with a view to ensuring that individual tasks are completed cost-effectively and at the appropriate level. There may be client secondment opportunities as well. Responsibilities The role would suit a junior paralegal with strong analytical capabilities and the confidence to shoulder responsibility for their own matters and deal directly with clients. Key responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Ad clearance work: Support the Paralegal currently in the team to manage and execute international advertising and commercial clearance work across a wide range of clients and jurisdictions Work alongside the Paralegal currently in the team to liaise directly with clients and local counsel throughout entire lifecycle of a matter Allocate new client requests to the wider commercial team Ad Slogan work: Receiving incoming instructions from clients to conduct Adslogans searches Conducting Adslogans searches. This will involve conducting searches on LS databases, trade mark databases, external databases and online resources and compiling the results in a report. Initiating new client/matter inception where necessary Assisting with invoicing relating to Adslogans and trade mark matters Assisting trade mark team with research into infringements Perform trademark clearance searches and analyses Draft letters and collating evidence with regards to trademark prosecutions General work: Legal research Assisting the team on both contentious and non-contentious matters as needed Assisting in the various marketing initiatives within the department including, in particular, researching and assisting lawyers in preparing for conferences and other speaking engagements Providing assistance with international projects and retainers, liaising with clients and helping with billing, narratives and administration; Maintaining soft copy accurate filing, on a day-to-day basis, of scanned documentation and incoming/outgoing emails A proactive approach to ensure that all administration work is completed on a timely basis, using own initiative and resourcefulness Working with departmental administrators to ensure hard copy file archiving is carried out on a regular basis Taking an active part in developing your own role and working to provide increasing support for allocated partner(s) and associates – ensuring suitable training is undertaken Assisting team colleagues and other Paralegals with heavy workload and holiday cover when required or as delegated by your manager Additional information Candidate profile Candidates will have: Excellent academics A legal qualification or previous legal experience Advanced organisational and influencing skills, flexibility of style, attention to detail and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment Excellent presentation, written, communication and interpersonal skills Team player and enthusiastic – flexible and willing to take on extra responsibilities Highly professional in conduct and appearance at all times Flexible and able to work overtime when required Punctual at all times Candidates above all, must be a team player with a passion to work with a fast-paced professional and friendly team.
