About the Company:
Our client has an exciting opportunity for an IT Network Engineer to join the IT Team based at the Head Office in Birmingham on a fixed term contract for 2 years. Our client is currently investing £1 billion to improve rail services from London to Liverpool and across the West Midlands. This includes new trains, improved stations and better journeys.
Network Engineer Responsibilities:
•Work within the IT team to deliver a programme of work to enable the upgrade of the WAN and MPLS / SD WAN and implement IT (IP enabled) equipment on site to be connected via a newly provisioned local area network that will require new infrastructure to be configured and connected to the network.
•Preparing a wide range of enabling and handover documentation including operational documentation to ensure the IT team have clear documentation to manage services after any changes.
•Diary Management to ensure availability is managed across a working week for installations and planned work.
•Be available to be on site or in HQ to manage the connectivity to the Network, ensuring that its working as per the design. Troubleshoot any problems as they arise with each service or IT enabled equipment or network installation.
•Creation, management and delivery of Network Switch configurations and applied, tested and implemented.
•Preparing a wide range of documentation including operational documentation to ensure the Business as Usual team have a clearly documented Network topology to manage the environment after handover.
•Coordinating project specific deliverables as instructed by the Project Manager, IT Programme Manager or Network Infrastructure Architect.
•Alignment with the project team with a focus on the field engineering team to implement project deliverables to a satisfactory status.
•This job requires an awareness of any potential compliance risks, cyber security awareness and the application of those to maintain the level of security required by the business.
Network Engineer Requirements:
•Rigorous attention to detail
•Tenacious, committed and results-oriented
•Can work well under pressure and at times during unsociable hours
•At least 5 years working in an IT Network environment
•Understanding of routing and switching at both layer two and layer three of the OSI model
•Hierarchical IP Subnetting
•Thorough Unified Communications experience
•Current knowledge of VOIP, IP and MPLS Systems and services
•Experienced in the design and configuration of SD WAN, Firewalls, VPNs and IDS/IPS Solutions
•Implementing and testing services into production.
•Providing support for the service transition BAU and Project teams.
•Full UK Driving License
•Worked within the rail industry in another Train Operating Company, Network Rail or Rail Delivery Group (Desirable)
•Lives within the Midlands region (Desirable)
