Bladed provides worldwide wind turbine and component manufacturers, certification agencies, design consultants and research organisations with a design tool that has been extensively validated against measured data from a wide range of turbines. It is the global industry-leading wind turbine design tool.
The Bladed development team is looking for a technical specialist with deep knowledge of structural and multibody dynamics, to focus on improving Bladed’s structural dynamics modelling, and collaborate with other structural dynamics experts in DNV GL and in the wider industry.
Example structural dynamics developments in the product roadmap include:
- Import of wind turbine blade cross-section 6x6 mass and stiffness matrices to capture bend-twist coupling dynamics;
- Extending the superelement support structure model to include rigid body rotations to model earthquakes;
- Co-simulation with other offshore wind turbine modelling tools.
The successful applicant will be well connected in academia and/or industry to understand the best practice in multibody dynamic modelling, ideally in the context of wind turbines and/or aero-elastics. They will guide the method development for Bladed’s multibody dynamics engine, and contribute to the implementation of new features and improvements in C++ code.
The role will also involve other general analytical development activities in Bladed, in technical areas such as integrator methods, linearisation, mechanical systems, aero-elasticity and coupled system dynamics. The role includes working directly with customers and academics on theory, implementations and usages.
- Proven significant expertise in structural dynamics and flexible multibody dynamics;
- Experience with object orientated code development (preferably in C++);
- Willingness to develop a technical profile within the wind industry including presentation and publication.
- PhD in structural dynamics, multibody dynamics or equivalent industrial experience;
- Knowledge of wind turbine dynamics and loads analysis;
- Knowledge of aero-elasticity and stability;
- Experience of development of wind turbine aero-elastic simulation codes;
- Knowledge of Fortran.
