Legal Counsel, Chester, UK
The GBG Legal Team plays a vital role in the success GBG’s global identity data intelligence business. As a team, our aim is to adopt a market leading customer centric stance – both to our external clients and internal colleagues. We’ve been recognised for the contribution we make and for our initiatives to streamline processes and to provide commercial legal support to this fast paced and innovative organisation.
This role, although permanent, is initially required to cover maternity leave within the Legal Team from January 2020 to January 2021 so an immediate start is preferable. Thereafter, the role will help to support GBG’s wider business growth strategy.
In this role, you will work closely with other members of the GBG Legal Team to provide advice and support services across a wide range of commercial and contractual matters. In particular, it is expected that the successful candidate will act as legal business partner for the compliance and fraud solutions go-to-market team in EMEAA (Europe, Middle East, Africa & Americas).
The role will involve direct exposure and interaction with the Senior Sales Managers and Business Unit Leaders on a range of business critical matters and may require travel to meet with customers and stakeholders from time-to-time.
What you will do…
You will be responsible for:
• Negotiating data supply contracts and client agreements.
• Advising on data protection and compliance matters.
• Where necessary drafting and updating standard contract terms and variations to standard contracts and agreements.
• Providing legal advice and guidance to sales teams and GBG stakeholders.
• Organising legal training for sales teams.
• Prioritising workloads and communicating with commercial colleagues.
• Monitoring changes in relevant legislation and taking appropriate action.
• Liaising with external counsel and managing costs budgets where required.
• Collaborating with a broad range of other internal and external contacts.
Travel (including on short notice) may be required from time to time to facilitate contract negotiations with international customers
To enable you to be successful, we are looking for…
• A qualified lawyer (circa 5+ Years PQE or equivalent) with commercial contracts experience. You should be familiar with English Law and have practiced in the UK.
• Previous in-house experience is desirable, although this role could also be suitable for a lawyer with a private practice background moving in-house.
• Due to the type of work, the successful candidate should be confident advising and supporting on technology and software contracts.
