The School of Art, Design and Performance is seeking to appoint a highly motivated, research active and ambitious applicant to the role of Senior Lecturer in Textile Design who will also fulfil the role of Course Leader. Our long-established Textiles course at Bucks has an enviable track record of successful alumni, and boasts a vast, well-equipped resource area. The course recognises the diverse range of creative practices and industries; it also attracts a wide range of visiting practitioners who deliver industry-facing projects and collaborations that help our students to meet the challenge of working in this competitive but rewarding field. We are looking to appoint an outstanding candidate who is an accomplished educator with a developing research record, and who possesses advanced subject knowledge within the broad field of textile and surface design. The appointee will ideally have considerable industry experience as a designer-maker and will be responsible for ensuring the enhancement and informed relevancy of the course to applied industry and commercial needs, and be able to access or develop appropriate networks to source opportunities towards an excellent student experience. As Senior Lecturer and Course Leader, the appointee will take a lead role for the vision, development and organisation required to ensure the successful management and day-to-day running of this course. At the same time, they will be making a significant contribution to teaching and academic development of the Textiles course, and BA Fashion and Textiles course. Specialism in one or more areas (e.g. print, knit) is a minimum, and CAD proficiency is an advantage. The appointee will also contribute to the continued successful student recruitment to the programmes of study and ensuring an excellent student experience. They will also be expected to contribute to research and enterprise, as well as engage with our marketing strategies. What they can expect in return are excellent employment benefits including: training, development and research support, a generous holiday entitlement, contributory pension scheme, discounted gym membership and a range of staff discounts with major retailers.
