As part of the Global Security & Brand Protection Department you will develop leads and conduct investigations of high value targets. Your primary objective is to successfully investigate and undertake enforcement actions against persons/ organisations that are involved in the manufacture, distribution and/or sale of goods bearing counterfeit UL marks. Duties will include intelligence gathering and analysis, investigation coordination and management, preparation of reports and recommendations for actions. You will be involved in every phase of the case from initiation to resolution. You will support other department priorities and strategies work with team members on special projects as needed. You will be expected to resolve complicated and sensitive matters in an efficient and effective manner. Other duties will include assisting with the development and delivery of training to internal and external stakeholders, consulting with GSBP leadership to assist in the coordination of strategies and initiatives, integration and implementation of law enforcement best practices and procedures for the program, development of operational partnerships with law enforcement and other stakeholders to undertake joint IP crime investigations, enforcement initiatives and training opportunities. Managing intelligence-led investigations and enforcement actions against persons/ organisations that are involved in the manufacture, distribution and/or sale of goods bearing counterfeit UL marks Managing online investigations and enforcement actions by working with online marketplace sellers such as EBay, Amazon and Alibaba against persons/ organisations that are involved in the manufacture, distribution and/or sale of goods bearing counterfeit UL marks Analysis of intelligence and evidence dealing with the counterfeiting of UL marks Managing the performance of external contracted security/private investigation firms including monitoring of invoicing and financial expenditure Produce investigative reports Obtains adequate evidence to support criminal and/or civil actions in consultation with UL management and legal team, law enforcement and/or prosecutors Preparation of investigative reports for internal and external counsel, law enforcement and/or prosecutors Provide affidavits, victim impact statements and/or testimony in court proceedings as needed Working with international police and customs authorities as required – including conducting anti-counterfeiting awareness and UL mark identification training Partnering with law enforcement agencies, customs officials, regulators and government agencies, industry organizations, and other rights holders on behalf of UL Efficiently utilising UL’s case management system (OSCID) Auditing and evaluation of procedures, processes and systems; recommending improvements to the GSBP program based on industry best practices and experience. Assist in the development of effective ideas, strategies and action plans to ensure the integrity and protection of the UL marks Other duties as directed JOB REQUIREMENTS At least 5 years’ experience with managing investigations A minimum of 5 years’ experience with trademark counterfeiting investigations Experience with online investigations an asset Excellent oral and written communications skills. Will be required to deliver presentations on behalf of UL at various conferences, trainings and other events Fluency in English required. Preferred candidate will have a working knowledge in other languages such as German, Spanish and French Substantial intellectual property enforcement experience, including research, intelligence analysis, formulating and executing investigative and enforcement actions, review and preparation of investigative reports Strong working knowledge of law enforcement and customs procedures, including the gathering and retention of evidence Proven ability to coordinate complex investigations with law enforcement and prosecutorial agencies Experience working with and managing private investigation agencies Sound judgment and a demonstrated ability to make timely decisions Highly organised, analytical and detail-oriented with superior time management skills and demonstrated ability to multi-task prioritize tasks Demonstrated ability to manage budgets Candidate with an established network of contacts in relevant governmental and law enforcement agencies has an advantage Candidate with an established network of contacts with online marketplace sellers has an advantage Strong communication skills necessary to effectively work effectively as a team member with UL staff, law enforcement, clients, and other stakeholders globally Some travel required Not ready to apply?
