Description The Dow Chemical Company has a great and challenging opportunity for a one year placement Internship – Electrical and Instrumentation Engineering to join our Engineering organization in Europe at Barry, UK. Dow Corning, part of the Dow Chemical Company, is the world leader in the development, manufacture and marketing of Silicone Polymers and Silicon Chemicals for extensive end-user applications. Near to Cardiff, our facility in Barry, South Wales is the largest and most technologically advanced Silicone manufacturing facility in Europe. Electrical and Instrumentation Placement Student: After an initial induction period you will be assigned a Senior Engineer to mentor you during your year with Dow. You will work as an Electrical and Instrumentation Engineer, responsible for ensuring the correct operation of data acquisition and process control devices essential for the Barry sites chemical production. You will also spend time working with an extensive array of high voltage systems used on the site for power distribution. You will be assigned a Senior Engineer to mentor you during your year with Dow. Work Elements: Process Instrumentation Commissioning, inspecting and understanding pressure, temperature, level and viscosity equipment plus their feedback loops to Dow’s distributed computer system (DCS). Process Control Work on actuated control valves in specific chemical processes. Including the design of site emergency shutoff systems and SIL grade high integrity control loops. High Voltage Systems Gain practical knowledge of all major HV voltage components at the Barry site from transformers to a larger compressor motor drive. Visit the Barry sites personal power station (CHP). Design Engineering Gain practical experience of the detailed design of electrical and instrumentation packages for capital projects. During your placement you will be assigned specific small projects or tasks to assist Engineers in improving reliability, carrying out maintenance tasks or small improvement projects. Preferred start date is in September 2018, for the preferred duration of 1 year. Applicants must have excellent communication and influencing skills and be comfortable taking a hands-on approach in an industrial processing environment.
