Here at HM Land Registry we have an exciting opportunity for a Head of Software Development to join our team based in Plymouth. You will join us on either a Flexible working, Full-time, Job share or Part-time basis and you will receive a highly competitive salary of £63,778 - £72,348 per annum.
It is a very exciting time to join us as we continue on a major digital transformation programme. Our existing software systems form part of the critical national infrastructure, safeguarding land and property ownership valued at £7 trillion, enabling over £1 trillion worth of personal and commercial lending to be secured against property across England and Wales. You will join our award winning Digital, Data and Technology Directorate which is the in-house IT division at the heart of the move to a digital, data-driven organisation with the ambition to provide our customers with cutting-edge digital services.
Do you want to be responsible for the value and effectiveness of the software development practice for a progressive, transforming organisation? You will be at the forefront of identifying, testing and championing the adoption of emerging technologies. You will be the representative for software development, promoting it across government and externally at events and building relationships high profile stakeholders like Government Digital Service (GDS) and Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS). You will ensure there is sufficient capability and capacity in the software development practice to meet our current change portfolio, culture and Business Strategy. You will be Head of function as well as Head of Practice continually developing and leading on new ways of working.
Responsibilities of our Head of Software Development include:
You will lead in ensuring the software development practice is employing the most relevant practices, processes and technologies to best deliver our needs. Meeting necessary standards and having the ability to support service demands including robust availability and change in a complex IT estate.
You will use your own deep technical knowledge to lead and plan development activity across multiple teams as well as working as a software development practitioner to resolve complex technical challenges. You will remove blockers that prohibit our community being successful in software development and ensure we have the appropriate skills and capability to be the best.
What we’re looking for in our Head of Software Development:
As an expert with extensive experience of software development in an agile, digital operating environment you will role model and demonstrate your knowledge of software development, including expertise in system design, strong programming, integration and support knowledge. Your demonstrable experience of setting strategy and managing practice level resource for large programmes of change will be essential. You can show us your experience of leading and growing software development practice and capability with great results. You can coach and share your own experience of being a high performing software developer and a leader of change in a complex and evolving environment.
