We have some 30 engineering employees providing computer-based control system services for our blue-chip customers.

About the Role
We’re looking for a diligent, hands-on Finance Manager with a good understanding of the accounting practices applicable to a professional services company.
You will produce our management accounts and cash-flow forecasts and handle payroll using Sage 50 accounts, Sage cloud payroll and Microsoft Excel. You will be very familiar with accruals and prepayments, handling expenses, sales invoicing, purchasing, and other transactions and ledger matters for which you will have oversight. You will be line manager and supervisor for our accounts clerks, who carry out daily data entry and reconciliation.
Where this role is different is that we’re looking for someone who is also ready to act as a manager and provide financial insights to the rest of the management team. You will contribute to general business strategy and improvement. If you have good ideas, then we want to hear them and help you make them happen.
You may currently be reporting to a finance manager or director and feel ready to step up. You may have ambitions to become a Financial Director in the future, and looking for the ideal role to provide relevant experience. In this role, you will become a key member of our core management team, reporting directly to the managing director.
Our accounts need to be an honest and correct reflection of our costs and progress. We want you to ensure that we continue to have a realistic picture of our financial position, and comply fully with all tax and accounting standards - so the highest standards of professional integrity and competence are a must.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:
The key responsibilities we will entrust to you include:
•Running the accounts department
•Participating positively in Management Team meetings
•Taking an active part in business improvements, perhaps in IT systems, supply chain management, project monitoring or data analysis – or other areas where you have an interest or aptitude
•Assisting the Managing Director with annual Budgeting and forecasting
•Monitoring of day to day financial operations
•Preparing accurate monthly financial accounts - balance sheet, P&L and cashflow statement
•Managing Quarterly VAT
•Reviewing current financial systems and managing changes to improve quality and efficiency of processes
•Acting as a signatory for bank transactions
•Ensuring that the company is able to meet all statutory financial obligations
Characteristics the successful Finance Manager will possess:
•Commercial awareness and intelligence to rapidly comprehend the nature of the business, and its priorities
•The ability to extract the key information from the data detail
•A problem-solving mind with an aptitude for fresh analysis to
•Qualified or perhaps part qualified to an appropriate professional accounting qualification
•Experience – or proven ability to get up to speed quickly – in relevant Sage products
•Excellent Microsoft Excel skills – and a recognition of the weaknesses and pitfalls of that tool
•Accustomed to respect and protect confidential information.
•Ability to work effectively with external providers (such as bank, insurers, pension, auditors)
•Track record of managing change and improvement in accounting systems
•Pride in accuracy, record-keeping and traceability, attention to detail and integrity
•Someone who can communicate effectively with non-accounting personnel
•good written communication skills
•Ability to prioritise effectively
•Ability to work independently – but seek internal or external advice when needed
•Effectiveness in a supervisory / coaching role
Salary, Benefits & Other details:
•Salary: Open; £37k-£45k dependent on experience and qualifications
•Benefits: Good pension, medical, DIS and other benefits
•Job Type: Permanent position, 37¼ hour/week; some flexibility negotiable
•Location: South Yorkshire (10 minutes from M1 or M18)
