As a key member of the Concept Innovation team reporting into the Concept Lead, you will be responsible for generating ideas and design concepts for innovative apparel, with a focus on active lifestyle and performance needs. You will explore and develop ideas through a collaborative and iterative process of prototyping, reviewing and improving to demonstrate and inspire new and novel apparel designs that will delight future consumers. Projects will include areas of interest for our brand portfolio as well as those that will advance our Innovation Moonshot Programmes, currently focused on exploring around the themes of Personalisation and Sustainability. Responsibilities Work with the Concept Lead to plan and deliver apparel innovation projects in line with our Moonshot Programmes and/or our Brand plans. Explore and generate design concepts for all types of apparel and other soft-goods. Liaise with the Insights team to support with Consumer and Market research that will help input into project briefs and development evaluation. Define the design intent for new apparel concepts that will delight consumers in new and novel ways. Work closely with the Innovation Engineers, Materials and Design teams to bring design concepts alive. Develop a network of creative experts and partners to help explore and experiment with ideas and product concepts. Actively pursue new material applications, construction and production technologies that will enhance our apparel offer to consumers. Build relationships with existing and potential new vendor partners to help determine how concepts can be developed in feasible and viable solutions in time. Liaise with the Product Development team to ensure that concepts can be developed into viable commercial products when and where appropriate. Produce appropriate design specification and documentation for successful continued design development by the Applied Innovation and/or the Operations teams when applicable. Support the Applied Innovation team with concept design development of new apparel propositions for brands. Grow and exploit the IP portfolio in association with the Pentland legal team. Needs to have Experience in producing leading edge design and innovation from blue sky exploration to commercial realisation, ideally within or for a global sportswear brand or similar industry Experience of working with consumer insight, trend, design, innovation, and scientific experts and information sources from across the globe Proven ability to generate ground-breaking conceptual ideas based on insights, scientific principles, technology, trends, data and research findings. Experience of cross functional team working and integration. Strong sketching ability to think through initial concepts and share with internal teams for review Experience of garment pattern-making and hands-on prototyping Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite (or similar) to explore and present design concepts and clearly define design intent Experience with 3D CAD (Browzwear, Rhino or similar) is not essential, but beneficial as the industry progresses in this direction Experience with performance materials, technology, digital developments and cutting-edge product manufacturing methods Experience in application of computer programs to an appropriate level for the purpose of creativity, data management, presentation, report writing and communication Experience in working with consumers at all levels and experience working with elite athletes / coaches of additional benefit Exceptional technical knowledge of garment and textile design and the process of innovation, including latest market developments and knowhow Proven ability of working with external individuals, institutes and facilities to support design and innovation. Proven ability to manage and deliver multiple, complex projects in line with project plans. Strong communication / listening skills with experience in tailoring style and content dependent on the audience as well as understanding cultural differences and requirements Proven ability to challenge the norm, think laterally and successfully persuade and influence others. Needs to be Highly collaborative and keen to push themselves and the team forward in positive way.
