It’s an exciting time to join Merton’s Children’s Social Care & Youth Inclusion Service. Were focussed on creating the conditions for our social workers to develop their knowledge and practice skills to deliver excellent social work interventions for Merton’s children and families. Our practice model combines systemic thinking and approaches with the Signs of Safety framework.
We’re looking for Practice Development Leads who are passionate and creative experienced social workers, skilled at working alongside teams and individual social workers to role model practice, interventions and support learning. You’ll be committed to Signs of Safety and systemic social work practice and keen to roll your sleeves up and get stuck in with families, students, social workers, teams, reflective group supervisions, workshops and learning events. You’ll be alert to emerging practice issues and be flexible and agile in delivering development support.
Our values are that children should grow up in their families where it is safe to do so. Where children are in our care we are committed to ensuring they have the care, permanency and strong connections they need to heal and sustain them into adulthood. We see our social workers as ‘change agents’ who are skilled at helping children and their families tackle problems, repair relationships and harness their strengths to co-produce plans which effect change in children’s lives. Our Practice Development Leads are pivotal in nurturing, growing and supporting our social workers to achieve this.
You’ll be supported by colleagues in our Quality Assurance and Professional Development Service in shaping your work plan using learning and insight from collaborative audits, appreciative enquiry, complaints and workforce feedback.
With permanent Team Managers and a permanent senior leadership team you'll be well supported in your role with regular and reflective supervision and an appetite for innovation. Our workforce is stable and 85% of your social work colleagues are permanent. Our Learning and Development offer provides access to a range of learning opportunities, accredited Signs of Safety and Systemic social work training and management development programmes to develop you practice and career.
This role provides an excellent opportunity for aspiring managers to develop their skills in overseeing, supporting and developing the practice of others.
