It's an exciting time to join Merton's Children in Care Service. We see our social workers as ‘change agents’ who are skilled at helping children and their families take different positions to effect positive changes in their lives.
We're looking for passionate and creative social workers who can devise and deliver a range of different plans for children in care from reunifying a child back into their family network through to securing permanency by adoption or special guardianship. We’re focussed on supporting excellent social work practice and use systemic approaches in a Signs of Safety framework to build on children and their families’ strengths. With manageable workloads, here in Merton, you can be the social worker you want to be - co-producing stability and permanence plans alongside families, working directly with children using words and pictures to help them understand their life story or developing cultural genograms and timelines with the family network to better understand their family system.
Our values are that children should grow up in their family where its safe for them to do so. Where children are in our care, we're committed to ensuring they have the care they need to heal and strong networks and connections to support and sustain them into adulthood. You'll use your systemic and direct work skills to build, maintain and repair relationships and connections with their families, friends, carers and community. Our in-house CAMHS Team provides timely interventions for our children and their carers supporting children to achieve healing and stability. Consultations and reflective supervision with our systemic CAMHS practitioners are available to our social workers.
We want our children in care to have a strong voice which influences services and practice. Our in-house Participation Team supports our Children in Care Council and our Chief Executive chairs our Corporate Parenting Board.
With permanent Team Managers and a permanent senior leadership team you'll be well supported with regular and reflective supervision. Our workforce is stable and 85% of your social work colleagues are permanent. Our Learning and Development offer provides access to a range of learning opportunities and accredited Signs of Safety and Systemic social work training to develop you practice and career.
