Cambridge Vehicle Technician
We are currently recruiting in our Cambridge Depot
Want to be part of a professional team maintaining and repairing a modern varied fleet of vehicles, learn new skills, and teach apprentices on the way. We are looking for people with skills or willing to learn on current models, and future Diesel, Hybrid and Electric powered Vehicles. Think you have what it takes to be part of a team of people with diverse skills and willing to learn, then you maybe the person we are looking for.
Stagecoach East operates 360 vehicles over 4 sites and we are looking for people with Truck/Rail/light commercial backgrounds in mechanical/electrical to be part of our growing team. Bedford depot operates a varied range of vehicles from mini buses up to high end coaches on a daily basis.
If you have a passion for being an vehicle technician and can tech people on the way your skills, “I fancy a change”, “I want more variety” or “I want better hours”, than what your current job offers, then we may just have exactly what you’re looking for!
Our customers rely on our services to get them to work, to the high street, to hospitals, to days away and nights out – and as part of our engineering team you’ll be a key part in making sure our vehicles are in tip top condition to do just that. It’s a really important role within our depot, so we’ll make sure you’re as looked after as our vehicles are!
You’ll have the responsibility of maintaining and repairing our modern fleet of 140 buses and coaches in Cambridge, part of the near 400 we operate across the East. Vehicles range from bus to coach and include models such as Alexander Dennis, Scania, Volvo and Optare. We invested £4.6 million in new buses last year, and thus there are some state of the art vehicles to work on.
Don’t worry if you’ve not worked on these vehicles before (or indeed buses) – we’ll train you on everything you need to know, and you’ll be supported by a great team of fellow Electricians, Mechanics, Technicians and Engineering Managers who all pull together to do a brilliant job.
And it’s not all depot-based work. You could find yourself out and about dealing with vehicle issues on the road, so it won’t always be the same four walls you’re looking at!
Aside from the reward of helping to deliver an incredible experience to our customers, there’s plenty more we can offer:
- Job security – we’ve been going since 1980, we turn over £1.3bn and we’re not planning on hanging our boots up anytime soon!
- We also provide Boots, overalls and specialist equipment so no need to worry about being safe/protected or having the right kit for the job
- Free travel – for you and your companion on our buses. That means on your days off you can be off shopping for free without worrying about parking the car, or heading off for a day in the city without paying a fortune in petrol or bus fares!
- A great regular income and great benefits – a good pension scheme to look after you after you’ve hung up the Spanner, multimeter!
Promotions – perhaps you’re happy sticking as a Technician/Mechanic/Electrician and that’s fine by us, but if you want to progress we’ll support you every step of the way. You will be given exposure to work which will develop your skills and experience to allow you to progress your career further. Many of our Stagecoach East Engineering Managers started off as Technicians/Electricians/Apprentices – so that could very well be you in the not too distant future!
You don’t have to come from a bus background (but we wouldn’t be put off if you did either!), but you will need to have worked in an engineering auto electrician field – truck, haulage, automotive, plant, rail, farm – if it moves, it’s good experience for working on buses!
