Attendance and Welfare Officer
Hours: 3 days a week (21 hours) term time only. 12-month fixed term contract.
Salary: Pay scale based on 3 days per week, term time only £13,453-£16,245 (FTE: £26,500 – £32,000)
Our client was established in 2015 by the three Company Directors who had previously worked together for a Local Authority Education Welfare Service. They saw the opportunity to establish a company that could provide the appropriate range of support to schools, children and families to secure regular school attendance.
Due to continued success and growth, our client is currently looking for someone who will carry out duties on the premises of allocated schools, on home visits, and at other relevant locations. The company has a designated Office and also supports flexible working from home.
Principal Responsibilities:
•To visit allocated schools/settings regularly and provide guidance and support to staff, parents, carers and pupils in accordance with service agreements negotiated with the school.
•To respond to referrals from allocated school/settings and undertake direct case work including home visits (cold-calls) to follow up attendance concerns.
•To undertake targeted pieces of work such as late gates and attendance blitz in accordance with service level agreements.
•To provide schools and settings with expert advice, guidance and challenge in relation to school attendance and the legislative framework.
•To contribute pro-actively to relevant areas of school policy and planning including the development of a whole school attendance policy. CSAWS ltd version 1 December 2016
•To undertake all preparatory work and applications for legal action in relation to non-school attendance in line with the relevant Local Authority’s process and procedures.
•To provide statements and give evidence to court as required in non- school attendance cases.
•To advise and support schools in the use of attendance data for the monitoring and management of school attendance.
•To be alert to indicators of abuse or neglect and follow child protection procedures, as appropriate, including making Child Protection referrals and contributing to child protection plans.
•To provide child protection advice, information and support to school staff.
•To make referrals, liaise and collaborate in joint work with other practitioners.
•To maintain appropriate records, prepare assessments and reports, and provide statistics as required
Candidate Requirements:
•A Level or level 3 equivalent qualifications or equivalent level of education.
•Ability to work independently and autonomously.
•To have excellent organisational and prioritising skills, working to deadlines and timescales.
•Is able to make and sustain good working relationships with clients and colleagues, often in times of pressure.
•Is able to organise and execute own work efficiently, under pressure and to changing priorities.
•Communicates well with a range of people and contexts.
•Able to use a variety of communication methods and IT systems.
•Has experience working directly with children and families for at least three years.
•Knowledge of school systems.
•Experience of/knowledge of education systems and education legislation.
•Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
•Experience of undertaking home visits to families.
•Experience of multi-agency working.
•Understanding of the complexities relating to school absence.
