Lewis Silkin is a UK top-100 commercial law firm with offices in London, Oxford, Cardiff, Dublin and Hong Kong. The firm is recognised by clients and industries alike as being distinct: for its deep understanding, insight and advice to creative, innovative and brand-focused businesses; for its market-leading international practice in employment, immigration and reward; and for delivering pragmatic, commercial advice in a refreshingly human way.
With 59 partners and more than 300 staff, the firm is structured around two key divisions.
In employment, immigration and reward, it is consistently top-ranked, and was named HR Law Firm of the Year 2015 by the Legal 500. With over 100 lawyers, Lewis Silkin’s employment and immigration team offers an unrivalled service supporting clients, including many of the world’s leading businesses, on their HR, employment and immigration law needs domestically and internationally.
The CMI division is made up of leading advisers for creative, innovative and brand-focused businesses, offering a deep understanding of the industry sectors in which clients operate combined with real expertise across a wide range of legal services. It consists of 35 partners and around 65 other specialist lawyers.
The division’s lawyers have decades of experience both within the creative industries and as legal advisers with in depth knowledge and experience of the many sectors that make up the creative world, including advertising and marketing, technology, financial services, retail, entertainment and media, fashion, hospitality and sports.
The Corporate team (which is part of the CMI division) consists of 12 partners, 8 Associates, 1 practice development lawyer and high quality secretarial and word processing support team.
The range of work we carry out includes all aspects of corporate (both transactional and non-transactional), corporate finance and tax advice.
Our clients are interesting and diverse and range from founders, owner-managed, entrepreneurial businesses to companies listed in the UK and overseas. It includes the persons, funds and banks who invest in, or otherwise act in connection with, these businesses.
We are interested not only in growing our existing base of clients by serving their legal requirements beyond our existing capabilities, but also having the capability to secure new clients as a result of a broader offering. The successful candidate will help us to achieve this.
Irrespective of seniority the successful candidate will be someone who has the personality, ambition and determination to support and help us achieve the aims we expressed above. There are also plenty of opportunities within our team, division and firm to lead as well as contributing towards the wider experience of being a member at our firm.
The successful candidate will be working with and be expected to develop close relationships with a range of clients. This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious lawyer to be key part to the continuing growth of this practice and to lead in the area of their specialty.
We expect the candidate to have excellent academics and strong interpersonal skills.
We are seeking a partner, counsel or senior associate. If an associate, this comes with fewer expectations as to a carried business, but whatever level of the candidate there must be a willingness, enthusiasm and confidence not only to represent our own clients and referrals but also – with our support, assistance and collaboration – to grow their financial services practice. The firm will provide full support in the development of the candidate’s own profile and the application of that profile to the firm’s wider corporate (and commercial) offering.
In terms of our own clients and referrals, we anticipate that these would be generated throughout EIR and CMI, and this candidacy has the support of senior partners in both divisions.
We have successfully integrated a similar recruitment in respect of our tax practice, a practice which is now an integral and valued part of our Corporate team.
We work in teams, with the size and composition of the team depending upon the nature of the transaction.
The successful individual will be a key part of a hard-working, friendly and supportive team; therefore, the ideal candidate will be a strong team player.
Our preferred candidate would have at least 5 years’ experience, some of which to involve working in a financial services group within a City-based London law firm.
The ideal candidate would have experience in respect of:
