Centric HR is recruiting for an Assistant Accountant on behalf of a social housing provider based in the West Midlands.
An exciting new role has arisen for an experienced finance professional to join a growing provider of homes and services to those people that need them most. The position is full time (35 hours per week).
The business has charitable status so having worked in this sector or a not for profit would be a distinct advantage. The postholder will be expected to work with the team to ensure the finance function of the charity meet governance requirements of relevant legal, regulatory, and monitoring frameworks in line with Charity Commission requirements.
The postholder will be responsible for maintaining the nominal ledger, accounts payable system and cashbook function. They will also be responsible for accurate and timely monthly balance sheet reconciliations and ensuring prepayments and accruals are processed. The postholder will also play a key part in assisting with the production of the monthly Management Accounts, they will also be required to assist with the processing of the payroll and the organisations stakeholder pension scheme in line with auto enrolment compliance.
Meeting standards and compliance are high on this company’s agenda and will be a fundamental part of how the person will be expected to work.
This is a pivotal role for the finance team and will work very closely with the Financial Controller to ensure that standards are met and maintained across all aspects of the teams’ work.
Who are we looking for?
If you feel that this role might be for you, you will need to have a Level 4 AAT qualification or higher with at least three years’ experience in a similar size organisation or more senior role. Charities/Not for Profit or Housing sector experience would be a distinct advantage but is not essential.
There’s lots to do in this business, ensuring systems are embedded, processes streamlined, and the business accounts get managed on a day to day business.
You will have been used to assisting with monthly management and year end accounts and producing accurate reports with a high level of attention to detail whilst being a proficient user of Sage 200. The postholder will also have experience of being an integral part of the year end audit process ideally in a not for profit organisation.
You will need to be organised, have a great attention to detail, a good problem solver and tenacious at seeing things through to conclusion. You will be a great communicator at all levels, both verbally and written, able to translate financial speak to those less confident than you.
