Given the nature of the work of PHE, as a Category 1 department, you may be required in an emergency, if deemed a necessity, to redeploy to another role at short notice. You may also be required to work at any other location, within reasonable travelling distance of your permanent home address, in line with the provisions set out in your contract of employment.

Job Purpose / Summary
Public Health England current operates four Specialist Microbiology Services laboratories in the East of England Group based at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, West Suffolk Hospital, Ipswich Hospital and Colchester Hospital. A process is underway to consolidate the work of these laboratories to two hub sites in Cambridge and Ipswich.
The Microbiology laboratory at Cambridge is one of two hub laboratories in the East of England region for Public Health England, providing diagnostic and public health services to a number of hospital sites and the surrounding district and other NHS Laboratories. It has active research and epidemiological interests, is accredited with CPA and has strong teaching interests. Set on the outskirts of the university city of Cambridge, Addenbrooke’s Hospital is one of the top hospitals in the UK and a thriving NHS Foundation Trust, closely associated with leading educational providers including the University of Cambridge and is a major centre for biomedical research and education. The laboratory at Cambridge works closely with the other hub laboratory in the region which is based at Ipswich.
The laboratory services undertake a wide range of routine and specialist microbiological and public health investigations. The service delivery across the East of England is supported by the PHE EofE Business Unit based at the Cambridge site. We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join the administration team in the Business Unit, assisting with the provision of personnel and administrative functions, including payroll, secretariat and minute taking.
This post is suitable for people with good GCSE/ A levels/ NVQ3 and demonstrable administration experience. Full training will be given and the post is suitable for all age groups.
The Business unit currently operates between 0800 and 1700hrs Monday to Friday, occasional weekend working may be required.
