Bioman Services Ltd is seeking a Trainee Service Engineer to join our growing team working in the UK’s Renewable Energy sector.
Based in Cardiff, we provide our clients across Wales and England with specialist technical services to support the operation of their wood-fuelled boiler installations. As part of Sustainable Group Ltd, we have assessed, designed and overseen the implementation of over 50,000 kW of renewable heating installations since 1998.
This is an opportunity to join a stable and growing, privately-owned company in a technically demanding and customer-facing role with back office support from a team of leading designers and engineers. We work for large multinational companies and public-sector organisations in both urban and rural settings.
The job involves assisting experienced Field Service Engineers with planned maintenance work and attending to breakdowns on a range of commercial wood-fuelled boiler equipment. The role will be home-based but working in the field alongside experienced engineers in the Client’s energy centre anywhere in Wales or England. After a suitable period of time, and subject to training, qualifications and assessment, you should expect to be promoted to a Field Service Engineer role and to be able to work alone safely.
Please note this is a Trainee role so you must be prepared to occasionally attend courses, qualifications, training and assessment programmes but most of the time you will be in the field carrying out servicing and repairs to wood boiler plant but always working alongside experienced engineers.
The ideal candidate will most likely have completed an Apprenticeship or Education to a minimum BTEC Level 2 in Mechanical/Electrical/Electronic/Control Engineering or equivalent.

- To be willing to travel in the UK and to be flexible with regards to overnight says.
- To be willing to occasionally work late to complete the job.
- To demonstrate an interest in combustion technology.
- To demonstrate strong skills in problem solving.
- To demonstrate good aptitudes and knowledge of electro-mechanical systems.
- To demonstrate a good aptitude for working safely.
- To demonstrate maturity and strong customer service skills.
- To have a full UK driving licence
Experience of working with wood boiler systems is NOT essential.
SALARY: £18,000 - £24,000 per annum
WORKING HOURS: 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday.
