Our award-winning organisation is looking for an ambitious, conscientious and a creative person who is able to work collaboratively as a team to ensure a vibrant learning experience for our Key Stage 3 & 4 pupils. If you are an experienced secondary school teacher who has a passion for teaching and learning and is not driven by data, then this is the role for you!
A company with vision and drive, Spark Academy has come a long way since our CEO and Founder, Mital Thanki, began tutoring one to one in Maths, English & Science. As a former teacher herself, she is now proud to have an ever growing team of equally passionate educators looking to holistically and academically support young individuals. Spark Academy now has two large sites across Leicestershire and serves almost 500 pupils from primary to A-level.
At Spark Academy we work hard and play harder. Our hours are different to teaching in schools due to the nature of our services. Pupils attend our lessons after school so that they can get ahead! Your working hours would be 11.45 - 8.15pm. This means that you will have plenty of time to plan and prepare for the lessons before students start to arrive at 4pm. We also do not expect any staff members to take work home over the weekend! In fact, we don’t encourage it at all. With our infamous pizza Fridays, as well as our brand new building, our team is always well-looked after. With personal well-being at the heart of our company, be sure to be part of a nurturing and supportive team.
Our Company Values
- We are passionate educators.
- We work together for our students.
- We are committed to high standards of teaching and learning.
- We strive to improve academic and holistic progress.
- We respect everyone.
- Everyone matters.
Inspirational and passionate teachers lie in the heart of Spark Academy. This role focuses on enjoying what you love best: motivational teaching and creating those light bulb moments! Our programme is made up of four key elements: Teaching, holistic, social media support & mentoring.
Teaching & learning: Between September and end of June, you will be teaching the curriculum through our bespoke resources. You may need to adapt the resources to our new model, but most should be up-to-date! You will also need to regularly update our e-learning platform. You will be expected to mark weekly homework for your classes and provide feedback through our bespoke software (maximum of 12 children in a class). The number of lessons per week can range from 12 - 20. You will have 3 hours a day for planning and preparation.
Holistic: Between July and August, we switch to our holistic timetable. Here we focus in on boosting our pupils’ confidence skills through a variety of activities. This allows educators to nurture a 'can-do attitude’ and allow pupils to maintain a healthy balance of academia and well-being. Examples of activities include drama, arts, sports and many more.
Social media support: As part of our commitment to ensuring that we fully support the students and the parents of Spark Academy, we provide social media support through our Instagram and Facebook groups. We prepare content such as video tutorials as well as conduct live sessions to help our pupils get the most out of their learning! We like to get really creative with the social media! Furthermore, we regularly update the blog!
Mentoring: You will be in charge of some students that have signed up for our Sparkcelerate mentoring services. You might see a pupil once a month or bi-weekly and help them boost their confidence in guiding them through our unique programme.
We look for:
- Positive role models that can mould and shape young lives
- Teachers that inspire
- Teachers that are not afraid to be creative
- Teachers that are not afraid to stamp their own ideas to a growing company
- Highly organised
- Highly committed
- Compassionate individuals
Location: The main site is located on Melton Road which will be the main base. If you are timetabled to teach at Oadby, Manor High School, then you will be required to travel.
Holidays: 28 days paid holiday (main holiday fortnights during Christmas and the Summer). We work during all half terms. We may need to make up two bank holidays to our pupils and work on a weekend or time can be taken in lieu over the summer. If you would like to take off more holiday during the summer, we may be able to discuss this and work it into your remuneration.
Expenses: If you are traveling in between sites by car, you will be eligible for mileage at the rate stipulated by HMRC.
Application Process: We will invite you for an interview day at the Spark Academy HQ. The interview process will seem a little different to normal school-based interviews. Why? Because we’re different! The interview will comprise as follows:
- Multiple choice questionnaire that gives us an insight on what really makes you tick, your values and how you like working in a team.
- Deliver a lesson which will be observed by Mital and Gemma (Head of Teaching & Learning).
- Formal interview with Mital and Gemma which will enable discussion about the lesson, key reflections, other questions based on past experience and your passions.
