Manufacturing Engineer (Applied Research & Technology)

Meggitt Control Systems is a leading supplier of fire protection and control, pneumatic, fluid control, thermal management and electro-mechanical equipment and sub-systems. Some nine facilities are located in the USA and UK, with repair stations in the UK, USA and Singapore.
Products: Aerospace valves - Bleed, ECS, anti-icing, fuel, solenoid, engine case-cooling, mixing and starter valves; and air-oil separators and Retimet filters. Thermal management - Tubular and plate-and-fin heat exchangers. High pressure ducting - High pressure ducting, flexible joints. AS1424 metallic hoses. Electro-mechanical products - Fans, motors, compressors, controllers and specialist pumps. Energy - Industrial fuel and bleed air control valves; ground fuelling products. Safety systems - Aircraft fire protection and control systems.
Job Core Responsibilities
•Deliver manufacturing technology programmes from MCL1 to MRL4 for heat exchangers and other gas turbine engine thermal system components
•Ensure that competing manufacturing technologies have been evaluated and a chosen option down-selected
•Develop the down-selected technology to the point of manufacturing production size components, using representative equipment in a laboratory environment
•Ensuring that the manufacturing technology meets all MRL4 criteria including unit cost, critical feature control, yields and production rates
•Work closely with Engineers across Meggitt businesses, as well as partners, including the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC), the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) and the Advanced Forming Research Centre (AFRC)
•Project manage activities as required
•Promote DFM (design for manufacture) disciplines and agree manufacturing methods for hardware
•Create and maintain assembly procedures, standard work instructions and PFMEA.
•Support the Manufacturing NPI Planner in supplying hardware in line with the project requirements.
•Work to reduce manufacturing costs by supporting make/buy initiatives
•Work with key suppliers and sub-contactors to optimise methods of manufacture to reduce manufacturing costs.
•Work with the manufacturing cells and subcontractors to define methods of manufacture and agree tooling and fixturing requirements.
•Raise and justify capital expenditure requests

•The successful candidate should also have an understanding of all aspects of production engineering including product fixturing & tooling and process engineering.
•The candidate must be IT literate with an understanding of a manufacturing based business system, preferably SAP and knowledge of software packages including Microsoft Project and Microsoft Office would be beneficial.
